• About Clay Date PDX

  • Who Are We

  • A ceramic studio committed to growth and learning, and a place to connect and empower new makers.

  • Our Mission

  • Help you walk away with a new found confidence and insight into your creative self.

  • What We Do

  • Hold your hand and answer questions every step of the way to help you bring home a piece of art that you can cherish for years.

  • Are you all work and no play?

There is a powerful creative spirit in everyone and when people are given the support and tools needed to let go of their fear they are free to learn, heal, and become close with that part of themselves. This creative growth is solidified through connection, when we share our art with the world.

If you have an artist inside you that's been dying to get out, Clay Date PDX is for you.

Amelia Armitage CEO of Clay Date PDX
  • Meet the Maker

  • I grew up with an inspirational painter for a Mom. She taught classes at my elementary school and always encouraged me to play with her paints.

My young eyes and impatient mind made a mess of every canvas so for a long time I put art making aside and instead admired the beautiful painting, sculpture, and handmade jewelry that my mother’s peers created. I decided that I wanted a life in the arts so in 2012 I completed my bachelors in Art History. I began making art as a form of personal Art Therapy.

When I found ceramics it transformed my whole thought process, how I saw the world, and how I felt about my life. I learned to trust myself and tapped into a strength that I didn’t know existed. I found that working in clay could change the most painful life experiences into something beautiful.

I left my day job after about a year of ceramics classes and began contracting my hands out to ceramic artists around Oregon. Clay took me all over the state and I learned from some of the best in the industry. I trained my mind with Sara Swink, she helped unlock my creativity. I trained my eyes at Mudshark studio, seeing the unending capacity of clay. I trained my hands at Stonedware Company, producing thousands of pieces and turning them out identically every time.

Now my mission is to help others (maybe you?) unlock the artist inside and rediscover the joys of messy play.
